Dr. Cooke is an internationally recognized and engaged expert in the realm of inland fisheries management and conservation. Working closely with diverse partners he has developed solutions to pressing environmental problems ranging from hydropower to fishing mortality. He is particularly interested in aspects of evidence synthesis and generating the public and political will to protect and restore freshwater biodiversity.
Cooke will be involved in studies examining knowledge user perspectives on emerging genetic/genomic tools. He will also apply his expertise in biotelemetry and physiological ecology to understand how genomic data link to behaviour and fitness of wild fish. Cooke will play an important role in connecting the natural and social science aspects of the project and ensuring that the research is relevant and accessible to end users.
