Arfa Khan

GEN-FISH Research Coordinator (2020–2022)
Fisheries and Oceans Canada
Freshwater Institute
(she/her)

Arfa has been an exemplary Research Technician in Dr. Margaret Docker’s lab (UManitoba) with a focus on utilizing molecular tools for conservation of endangered, aquatic species at risk (SAR) and control of aquatic invasive species (AIS).

She served the GEN-FISH project from 2020 to 2022 as the primary Research Technician, locating and archiving published genomic resources, procuring eDNA literature, and designing species-specific eDNA assays (Fish Survey Toolkit).

Since Arfa was hired on to DFO’s Freshwater Institute in June 2022, the Research Coordinator role has been transferred to Paige W. Breault. Thank you for everything, Arfa!

With increasing threats to the aquatic environment, it is essential that we also evolve our technologies to identify issues and potential solutions quickly.
