Dr. Bernier has broad expertise in the fields of fish endocrinology and physiology. His research is focused on identifying the pathways that regulate the stress response, understanding the developmental and long-term effects of environmental stressors, and developing novel biomarkers to understand the impact of industrial and agricultural practices on aquatic wildlife.
Dr. Bernier and his students will contribute to the development and calibration of a stress-response transcription profile chip (STP-Chip), as part of GEN-FISH’s Fish Health Toolkit. His team will conduct a series of stress exposure trials on a diversity of fish species under controlled laboratory conditions to confirm the relative capacity of the STP-Chip to detect transcriptional responsiveness within and among species.
