Dr. Heath is one of Canada’s leaders in the application of genomics and transcriptomics to fish conservation and fisheries. His work ranges from conservation-related studies of gene expression response to stress in species of conservation concern, to advancing the performance of aquaculture species in captivity.

As the Operational Director of GEN-FISH, Dr. Heath will oversee coordination of all aspects of the network. He will also contribute to the technical development of eDNA applications such as environmental RNA and environmental microsatellite DNA. This work will contribute to the development of the genomics chip (Fish Health Toolkit) with over 100 fitness-related genes.

With increasing threats to the aquatic environment, it is essential that we also evolve our technologies to identify issues and potential solutions quickly.
