Dr. Neff is a noted authority on the behaviour, genetics and ecology of fishes, and has worked extensively to conserve native biodiversity and improve the efficiency and sustainability of the aquaculture industry.

Dr. Neff and his students will develop and validate experimental protocols and statistical models for the use of microsatellite eDNA to estimate changes in population abundance for key freshwater fishes. This research will enable unprecedented precision in eDNA-based abundance estimates that will facilitate fisheries management and conservation programs.

With increasing threats to the aquatic environment, it is essential that we also evolve our technologies to identify issues and potential solutions quickly.
